“We pride ourselves on you having a named contact so that they know your story. You’re not having to call back to repeat yourself,” says Dan Avon, president of AIM Insurance.
When Dan’s previous Company was sold to a large American firm, he felt that it was time for him to move on. He believes in a boutique-style approach to insurance, offering customers a more personalized touch and the opportunity to build real relationships with each other. He says that this results in high-quality service.
“We know your situation, so we’re able to provide better advice and protection.”
Dan launched AIM Insurance on January 1st, 2020, and the company has grown exponentially over the past four years, currently employing 48 people. Despite its rapid growth, AIM is still a relatively small firm, and Dan says the growth is largely due to word-of-mouth referrals and being connected with the communities that the staff live in.
“We’re doing something right, because our clients appreciate the services we provide. We have competitive prices and we’re not offering bottom-of-the barrel-coverages. We’re giving great products, great premiums, and excellent service,” says Dan.
AIM Insurance’s staff take great pride in winning this year’s BurlingtonToday’s Reader Favourites award in the Insurance Broker category. The company refers to themselves as “fiercely independent and family-owned,” looking out for their clients’ best interests.
This approach is paying off. In an industry that can often cause frustration and stress, AIM has received some rave reviews, including one from a client who was worried that they would no longer be able to afford to own a vehicle. They spoke with Dan, who was able to find them a lower rate.
“I asked him if he could find me cheaper insurance. Otherwise, I would need to sell my vehicle. He said, “We can help you out, not to worry”.”
Another client offered up positive feedback on their experience getting their motorcycle insured.
“I want to thank AIM for making it a breeze to get motorcycle insurance, I thought it would be a nightmare, but they were so helpful through the whole process. Very professional and most of all responsive.”
Dan says that being able to help people solve their problems is rewarding.
“You get those claims where someone’s going through something serious, and you’re helping them and holding their hand along the way.”
In a commodified product like insurance, qualities like honesty, transparency and trust go a long way. Part of building trust is being involved in the community, which AIM Insurance has taken to heart. They’ve run food drives internally at their offices, sponsored many kids’ sports teams, and recently sponsored a golf tournament that raised $30,000 for CityKidz in Hamilton, an organization that supports children and youth from low-income families. AIM personally raised $7,000 of that total.
In addition to the company’s charitable work, Dan and the AIM team believe in supporting their clients. When a Craig’s Cookies location opened up in Burlington, the Toronto-based cookie shop enlisted AIM for their insurance needs. The AIM crew showed up on opening day to personally congratulate them— and pick up some cookies for the office.
